Cable Beach is so tame that I doubt you will see any fish at all. Barracuda like the inlets and there are alot of them - I caught a six footer. I am not afraid of them. I have never seen a shark in Bahamas though I am sure they are around. Nurse sharks are more easily seen. They lay on the bottom and ar no danger unless you yank their tails.

Best snorkeling is at Lyford Cay just west of cable beach - Coral Reef divers I believe are the local operator. Also Rose Island reef east of Nassau is good. See othe psot of mine in this archive.
Cable Beach is just a beach not a reef.

Are there certain areas we should avoid for swimming/snorkeling? We are vacationing in July on Nassau (Cable Beach).
